This year marks the 30th anniversary of the closure of Underground Coal Mining in Collie. As a photographer, John Bylund was permitted to photograph Underground in the last few weeks of operation in 1994.
These images have been kept in storage since then, but with the 30th anniversary looming, John decided it was time to share them with the miners, their families and the Collie community.
To commemorate this 30th anniversary, John Bylund has published a book, and will be holding an exhibition entitled “Ghosts of the Underground” at the Collie Art Gallery. The exhibition will be on display until the 31st May.
Collie Art Gallery is open Thursdays to Mondays, 10.00am to 4.00pm
