South West artist Elisha McGuckin returns with her latest vibrant and provocative collection, Be Treatwise. Enjoy A Balanced Diet. Known for her distinctive fusion of pop art and still life painting, McGuckin turns her attention to the glossy allure of junk food packaging and the subtle dietary advice it carries.
After years of studying food wrappers and sweet packets, McGuckin has zoomed in—both literally and conceptually—on the bold, colorful designs of lollies and snacks. Her fascination began with the way light reflects off the slick, commercial surfaces of packaging, but it soon led her to a more nuanced discovery: the small-print nutritional guidance discreetly tucked into these bright wrappers. Once deliberately ignored, these understated labels have now become a central focus in her work.
Through larger-than-life canvases and meticulous detail, McGuckin invites viewers to question their relationship with consumerism, indulgence, and the quiet messaging embedded in everyday pleasures.
