This spectacular scenic drive will have you driving deep within the valley, under the canopy of the forest, following the rapids and tranquil waters of the Collie River.
Lennard Drive is a one way, sealed road that extends from the bottom of the Wellington Dam Wall to River Road near the Honeymoon Pool campgrounds. Along this gorgeous winding route you’ll come across four picturesque locations, all well signposted, with small parking areas for your vehicles. Lennard Drive is 2WD friendly, however is not suitable for caravans, motor homes and cars towing trailers, due to its small car parking areas and tight winding bends.
Getting to the start of Lennard Drive can be accessed from two directions, one from Wellington Dam Road and the other from Pile Road, which will then lead onto Falcon Road. Once following along Falcon Road, keep an eye out for the Lennard Drive turnoff, it is well sign posted.
First location along the scenic drive is the Rapids, as the name suggests, it is a fast moving section of the Collie river that rushes over granite rocks through the lush forest.
Continuing along Lennard Drive, the next location you will arrive at is Big Rock. This location features a shaded picnic table, a huge granite floor to the river and some calm water for swimming.
A short drive further along, following the river, you will arrive at Little Rock. A path will lead you to the picnic area and then onto the waters edge. The sloping granite banks are gentler and the water is far slower moving; pooling at the banks in a shallow section, then cascading over rocks into a deeper adjacent pool.
The final stop on this scenic drive, is the hidden oasis known as Long Pool. This river swimming spot cannot be seen from the road or car park, however it is very well signposted. Follow the path from the car park, it will lead you down to a secluded picnic spot and to a small wooden deck that features steps that take you into the water.
Not far from Long pool is the end of Lennard Drive. The “T” intersection offers a right turn onto River Road which takes you over a bridge crossing the river and into Honeymoon Pool. From here you may continue on River Road back onto Wellington Dam road which is the entry and exit road to the National Park.
This scenic drive is truly breathtaking with four terrific picnic and swimming spots in a row and mid week you’ll likely have it all to yourself. Please follow the signage in the area, show caution with kids near the waters edge and please take all your rubbish home as bins are not provided along this drive.
