Nestled in the heart of Collie, Western Australia, the Wallsend Coal Mine holds the proud title of being the region’s first commercially successful colliery. Established in 1898, following a government trial, it marked the beginning of Collie’s coal industry and played a pivotal role in powering the state’s early development. Though long closed, the site’s legacy lives on through preserved heritage features, walking trails, and historical archives offering visitors a chance to step back in time and explore a defining chapter in WA’s industrial story.

  • Officially opened in 1898 by Henry Malcolm Deakin.
