Bushfire Safety
Plan Ahead. Stay Aware. Play Safe.
Collie’s surrounded by lush bushland, which means bushfire awareness is a must, especially in warmer months.
Before you light a campfire or head off into the forest:
- Check the fire danger rating and any total fire bans at Emergency WA.
- Skip the BBQ or fire pit on high-risk days.
- Call 000 immediately if you see smoke or fire.
- Let someone know your plans and estimated return time.
Tip: Fires can start fast and travel faster. Stay alert and stay safe — for you, and for the region.

Driving and Road Conditions
On the Road? Take It Easy.
From highways to winding bush tracks, Collie’s roads are part of the experience — but they deserve respect.
Here’s how to drive safe:
- Watch for kangaroos and emus, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Gravel roads? Slow down as they can be slippery after rain.
- Mobile signal can be patchy so download maps ahead of time or grab a printed one from the Visitor Centre.
- Keep your fuel topped up, some areas are remote with no nearby service stations.
Good to Know: Many of our favourite places are a bit off the beaten path. Drive smart and soak in the scenery.
Trail and Personal Safety
Adventure Smart
Whether you’re hitting mountain bike trails, taking a bushwalk, or swimming:
- Be prepared and bring plenty of water, snacks and a first aid kit
- Dress for WA’s ever-changing weather – sun protection and layers are key and wear suitable gear
- Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return
- Stick to marked trails and obey signage
- Respect local wildlife and leave no trace. Take only memories, leave only footprints
- Fires are not permitted outside designated areas – check park alerts before you go
- Say g’day on the trail! It’s friendly, and someone might just share a local secret
Tip from locals: Collie’s nature is stunning – and remote. Be prepared, stay aware, and you’ll have a brilliant time.
