Right outside the Collie Visitor Centre, the Steam Locomotive Museum proudly showcases a remarkable collection of steam engines that powered Collie’s coal industry for decades. These giants of steel, including the famous “Polly,” a converted traction engine, once transported coal from the mines to the railway lines, fuelling towns and industries across Western Australia.
The museum also features the 54 RB Mechanical Shovel, an impressive piece of machinery that shifted millions of tonnes of coal during Collie’s mining heyday. It’s an open-air display where you can wander around, snap photos, and imagine what life was like when steam and coal drove the region forward. Perfect for families, history buffs, and curious travellers, this free attraction connects you to Collie’s industrial story in a fun and engaging way.
